Demystifying AI Literacy
What it means for your work, and how to build it
You keep hearing “AI literacy.” What does it actually mean?
Job posts ask for it. Leadership expects it. Almost no one explains what it means for your actual work. If that leaves you anxious or unsure where to start, you’re in good company. I’m building a short course to change that, and I want to start with what you need.
What I mean by AI literacy
The software most of us grew up with made us adapt to it. AI can adapt to you, but by default it hands everyone the same average answer. AI literacy isn’t prompt engineering. It’s bringing your own problem-solving and point of view into these tools, so what comes back sounds like you and fits your work.
What the course will likely cover
The plan is still taking shape. Your answers will decide the details.
- What AI literacy means for your work, and how to use a chatbot on a real task
- Moving from chatbot to agent: handing off a multi-step task and checking what comes back
- Building a simple AI setup you own, in your own Google Drive, that goes with you to any tool or job
No coding. Free tools work.
Format, timing, and cost
- Format
- Likely 2 to 3 live sessions, about an hour each, once a week, online
- Timing
- Late afternoon Eastern Time; dates set from survey responses
- Cost
- Not set yet. I’m considering a free intro session, and discounts for groups. Tell me what would work for you in the survey.
About Jason Prunty

I’m a product and design leader based in Philadelphia. For more than 15 years I’ve built digital systems that help people make decisions. I’ve also taught design and photography at the School of Visual Arts, Thomas Jefferson University, The City College of New York, and Montclair State University. I run withMission.tech, a consultancy that helps nonprofits use technology well. And I write Designing Intelligence, a series on how human and machine intelligence evolve together. That question sits at the center of this course.

The survey takes about two minutes. It asks where you are in your career, what worries you about AI and your work, and which format and times suit you. Your answers come to me and shape the course. I won’t share them, and filling it out doesn’t commit you to anything.
